SUMMARY:GPCC Meeting - September 2024
DESCRIPTION:Summary\n18 September Meeting: (Cllr. Steve Burgess in attendan
ce)\nNewington Cemetery Wall: The long-standing repair work is close to co
mpletion\, only for two traffic incidents to cause further damage to the w
all.\nFriends of Newington Cemetery: This volunteer group continues its mu
ch-valued care and maintenance work. A number of new planters are now in p
lace\, with Inch Nursery kindly providing soil and plants at cost.\nCamero
n Toll Gas Pipeline Works: Completion is targeted for early October but fu
rther complications have emerged from the discovery of more water pipe lea
kages.\nPrestonfield Road and Priestfield Road Improvements: The Council i
s consulting on proposals to resurface both roads\, improve the design of
footway paths\, introduce street trees\, make safety improvements to the r
ear entrance to Prestonfield Primary and generally to enhance the attracti
veness of the streets. The consultation closes on 9 October. You can acces
 s it at: https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/sfc/prestonfield-priestf
ield/ .\nDalkeith Road Bin Hubs: (See below) This is still a live issue an
d further conversation with Council Officers is scheduled for mid-October.
\nPrestonfield Bowling Green: Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust resu
bmitted proposals to the Council in August to reshape the site into a comm
unity growing garden area. The plans have run into budget and funding issu
es. A new assessment should be completed in December. The question of gard
en maintenance once in place remains open. Community Council Elections: (S
ee below) Elections are now scheduled for February 2025. Think about helpi
ng GPCC by becoming community councillor. Contact the Secretary for more d
etails. (Email address above)\nFrom the June 2024 Meeting: \nDalkeith Road
Bin Hubs: Ongoing local resident concern as hub sites are moved off Dalke
ith Road into side streets and as real issues become apparent on inadequat
e bin capacities\, missed collections and the seeming unwillingness of the
Council to take a fresh practical take on what has been a desktop-planned
exercise. Resident comments and queries (before any ‘complaints’) see
m to get nowhere. Contact Cllr. Flannery at Cllr.Pauline.Flannery@edinburg
h.gov.uk . Provide her with pictures of overflows. Get in touch with the W
