  • Edinburgh Building Retrofit and Improvement Collective

TheEdinburgh Building Retrofit and Improvement Collectiveis the umbrella organisation for community groups looking at domestic energy efficiency retrofit.

The Collective supports communities right across the city, through improvement of buildings using planned maintenance, retrofit and the introduction of local heat and energy systems.

Following funding from the Edinburgh Community Climate Fund, the Collective would like to hear from Edinburgh homeowners to:

understand how residents feel about energy-efficiency retrofit at home

raise awareness of considering a community-led approach, and

find out what people think about it and what would help encourage its use.

Pleasetake this short surveyto get your views heard:

  • Communal Bin Review (CBR)

The City of Edinburgh Council's Communal Bin Review (CBR) project aims to improve recycling and waste services for those living in flats.

The project should make it easier for residents to recycle by ensuring they have access to a full range of recycling bins: non-recyclable waste, food waste, glass, and mixed recycling.

The CBR team is planning engagement with the public prior to the statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for phase 4 which also covers our community council area.

The feedback provided by members of the public on specific locations will be considered and accommodated where possible. This will support the determination of final bin hub locations that will undergo the statutory consultation TRO process anticipated to start in Autumn 2023.

As part of the engagement process, letters with a map of the proposed bin hub are being posted to residents and should be delivered in the next few days.

Attached are the proposed bin hub locations. These proposed bin hub locations are also availableon linethrough a link in the darker shade areas in the city map.

A drop-in information event will be held on 11 July 2023 at Cameron House Community Centre, 34 Prestonfield Avenue, 2-5pm.

Residents are welcome to attend to ask questions, see details of what’s happening and find out how to comment on the new bin hub locations.

  • Climate Change – Towards Edinburgh Net Zero

Edinburgh City Council has drafted aNet Zero Carbon Strategy 2030,which is the proposed city route-map to engagement with climate change and the threats it poses.

The threats are real and the ‘net zero vision for the city’ conveyed in the published documents involves everyone.

We encourage you to take a look at what is envisaged across energy-efficient homes; sustainable public transport; local business and jobs; local hub working; electric vehicles and reduced car demand; greenspace access; biodiversity protection, and city centre transformation. The strategy paper can be found here:

    https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/29617/edinburgh-2030-climate-strategy

This is a wide-ranging programme, with many questions yet to be addressed. However, it is a start, and we have pulled together some useful information below to help you better understand what you can do to help.

The first is a comprehensive set of reference links to well-recognised online sites covering domestic energy use and energy change. It begins to answer the question “Where can I find out about…?”

The second is an article; “Domestic Renewable Energy Sources: An Overview of Heat Pumps”. It answers the question; “What are the basic features of heat pumps?”.

We hope this can help our residents become more aware of the issues around climate change and enable people to play their part in addressing it.
